Development

Director of Development, College of Medicine (Cardiovascular Disease, Immunology and Inflammation and Metabolic Disorders)

Structure

The Director of Development, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, is employed by the UC Foundation and has full-time assignment to the UC Academic Health Center’s Office of Development and Alumni Affairs.  This position reports to the Executive Director of Development and Alumni Affairs for the College of Medicine.

Focus

The Director of Development will join a team responsible for identifying, cultivating and soliciting gifts.  Primary emphasis for this position will be placed on working with donor prospects at the special and major gifts level of $25,000 and above in the areas of Cardiovascular Disease, Immunology and Inflammation and Metabolic Disorders.  The Director of Development may be assigned responsibility for additional College of Medicine projects as needed.

Specific Duties

  • Working with the Executive Director and appropriate faculty leadership, develop and implement plans for achieving projected dollar goals for assigned projects each year and for achieving specific campaign goals during the university-wide comprehensive campaign

  • Devise and execute strategies for qualifying and cultivating 150-300 assigned prospects for special, major and deferred gifts through in-person solicitations

  • Provide guidance and support to volunteers involved with assigned fundraising initiatives.  As required, recruit and train new volunteers

  • Build and qualify viable prospect lists, utilizing the resources of the UC Foundation’s Office of Prospect Research, and through consultation with faculty, volunteers, alumni, and staff

  • Maintain an active schedule of personal visits with prospects

  • Coordinate cultivation and solicitation of planned giving, corporation, and foundation prospects in consultation with appropriate UC Foundation staff

  • Ensure appropriate stewardship of gifts and donors

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree (or commensurate education and experience) and at least three to five years of progressively responsible fund-raising or related experience.  Special consideration will be given to candidates with strong ties to the Greater Cincinnati area and medical or healthcare fund-raising experience.  Knowledge of gift planning and charitable tax planning techniques are a plus but not required.  Candidates should possess strong written and interpersonal communication skills.

Director of Foundation Relations

Structure

The Director of Foundation Relations, is employed by the University of Cincinnati Foundation (UCF) and reports to the Executive Vice President, UC Foundation.

Focus

The Director of Foundation Relations is responsible for planning, implementing and
evaluating fund-raising efforts which identify, cultivate and solicit foundations to obtain funds for both ongoing and special projects at the University of Cincinnati.

Specific Duties

  • Develop and implement plans for achieving projected dollar goals for assigned projects each year and for achieving specific campaign goals during the university-wide comprehensive campaign

  • Facilitate and steward foundation relationships to maximize the opportunities for gifts and other resources

  • Serve as central clearinghouse to avoid unwanted multiple or simultaneous solicitations to foundations

  • Recommend opportunities and proactively pursue foundation prospects that match the priorities and interests of UC programs

  • Provide assistance as needed in fulfilling foundation application requirements

  • Schedule meetings between the UC President and national foundation program officers and staff the President at such meetings

  • Meet regularly with college/unit development officers and faculty to discuss foundation relations’ services

  • Interface with UCF research department staff assigned to research foundation prospects

  • Oversee two grant writer positions

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree with three to five years of relevant experience preferable.  Candidates should possess superior verbal and written communication skills and be at ease in interpersonal relationships.  Candidates must be willing to travel as needed.

Structure

The Director of Development, Provost Programs, is employed by the University of Cincinnati Foundation (UCF) and reports to the Senior Vice President and Deputy Executive Director, UC Foundation.


Focus

The Director of Development, Provost Programs, is responsible for planning, implementing and managing fund raising initiatives for the areas of Co-op, Honors, International and Graduate Studies.  Primary emphasis for this position will placed on building and qualifying viable prospect lists and cultivating and soliciting donor prospects to secure support at the special and major gifts level of $25,000 and above.

  • Develop and implement plans for achieving projected dollar goals for assigned projects each year and for achieving specific campaign goals during the university-wide comprehensive campaign

Qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree (master's degree preferred) and at least three to five years of senior level management experience, preferably in higher education. Candidates should have demonstrated effectiveness in fund-raising planning, experience directing a comprehensive fund-raising program and a record of successful major gift closures ($100,000+).  An appreciation for the diversity of the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences programs and their different fund-raising needs and objectives is important.  Candidates should have demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and work with the highest degree of professionalism.  Candidates should possess excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to think and plan strategically.  Candidates must be willing to travel as needed.

Director of Major Gifts - National Major Gift Program

Structure

The Director of Major Gifts, National Major Gift Program, is an employee of the University of Cincinnati Foundation and reports to the Associate Vice President and Principal Gifts Officer.

Focus

The Director of Major Gifts is responsible for building and managing a portfolio of prospects with major gift potential ($100,000+) through discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship calls across the country. This position works in close partnership with other UC Foundation college, unit and central development staff and requires significant travel.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a portfolio of 150 prospects with major gift potential

  • Establish and oversee fund raising for assigned prospects and/or areas, focusing on major gifts

  • Develop and maintain consistent, up-to-date prospect lists

  • Identify and visit alumni and friends (including discovery calls) to assess interest in the University and capacity to make gifts

  • Maintain an active schedule of personal visits with prospects

  • Identify potential volunteers, then organize and coordinate them for campaign fund raising efforts

  • Work cooperatively with fellow national major gift officers, college development officers and Foundation staff in the identification and cultivation of prospects

  • Establish and maintain accurate data on all prospects, including contact reports, utilizing the Foundation’s database systems

  • Work closely with Foundation central development specialists to support corporate, foundation and planned giving prospects

  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, experienced development professional with a proven track record of success in personal solicitation of gifts at the $100,000+ level.  Experience working in a national development role and capital campaign experience are a plus.  Candidates should be at ease interacting with individuals and exhibit excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.  A commitment to and passion for the role of development in furthering the mission of the University of Cincinnati is essential.  Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree, with an advanced degree preferred, and 3-5 years of major gift development experience.  Must be willing to attend evening and weekend activities and travel as needed.

Associate Director of Development - McMicken College of Arts and Sciences

Structure

The Associate Director of Development is employed by the University of Cincinnati Foundation (UCF) and reports to the Senior Director of Development, McMicken College of Arts and Sciences. 

Focus

The Associate Director of Development is responsible for activities related to fund raising and solicitation of special and major gifts for various departments within the College.  These activities include identifying and cultivating prospects; planning and soliciting special and major gifts; coordinating donor relations, stewardship, publications, and college-based activities with other college staff; and maintaining appropriate documentation of these activities.

Specific Duties

Build, qualify and manage a portfolio of assigned prospects.  Devise and execute strategies for qualifying and cultivating prospects (special, major and deferred), and solicit and close gifts in consultation with the appropriate College and UCF staff.

  • Develop and implement plans for achieving projected dollar goals for assigned projects each year.

  • Work with appropriate College and UCF staff to prepare proposals and gift agreements.

  • Make discovery, cultivation and solicitation visits within and outside the Cincinnati region.

  • Coordinate with College departments and faculty as needed to increase fund raising through special projects or campaigns.

  • Maintain donor files and report updates in the UC Foundation database. 

  • Participate in cultivation and stewardship events of the College and University, providing collegial assistance as needed for significant college events.


Requirements

Qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree and three to five years demonstrated successful major gift fund-raising experience.  A background in the sciences is a plus.  Candidates should have experience in directing or participating in a comprehensive fund-raising campaign.  Candidates should possess the ability to build and sustain good relationships and effectively collaborate with donors, colleagues, volunteers, college personnel and other constituencies in a professional and timely manner.  Candidates should demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills, excellent follow-through, accuracy and management of details.  Candidates should possess strong organizational skills and the ability to set priorities and meet multiple, competing deadlines.  Proficiency in Microsoft Word and products, database management, e-mail and web-related activities required.  Candidates must be willing to travel as needed.

Assistant Director of Development - McMicken College of Arts and Sciences

Structure

Focus

The Assistant Director of Development is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating various fundraising and constituent engagement programs.

Specific Duties

  • Build, qualify and manage a portfolio of assigned donors and prospects.  Devise and execute strategies for prospect discovery, cultivation and solicitation.  Focus will be on leadership annual gifts (acquisition and upgrades) and special gifts.  Development efforts will be conducted in collaboration with colleagues in the McMicken College as well as the appropriate UCF staff.

  • Develop and implement plans each year for achieving projected dollar goals for the Annual Fund and for assigned prospects.  Annual Fund programs will include Telefund, direct mail, and the University’s Faculty/Staff Campaign.

  • Conduct personal visits with alumni and friends of the McMicken College as part of the College’s advancement and alumni relations program.  Visits will be conducted for the purposes of prospect discovery, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.

  • Utilize UCF and College resources to focus and prioritize efforts for prospect discovery and expanding leadership annual giving.

  • Maintain quality donor files, including timely submission of contact reports in the Foundation’s database.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of demonstrated successful experience in fundraising.

  • Experience in directing or participating in a comprehensive fundraising campaign.

  • Ability to effectively build and sustain good collaborative relationships with donors, colleagues, volunteers, college personnel and other constituencies in a professional manner.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills, including setting priorities and meeting deadlines, managing details accurately, and following through in a timely manner.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, e-mail and web-related activities, and database management.  Experience with BSR Advance is a plus.

    • Assist the Director of Corporation Relations in working with Fortune 1000 corporations and national corporations

    • Organize and oversee an annual campaign committee made up of 15-20 corporate leaders

    • Serve as central clearinghouse to avoid unwanted, multiple, or simultaneous solicitations to assigned corporations

    • Recommend opportunities and proactively pursue corporation prospects that match the priorities and interests of UC programs

    • Meet regularly with college/unit development officers and faculty to discuss corporation relations’ services
